GRADE CROSSING CONTROLLER
Our Grade Crossing Controllers are designed based upon prototypical operations of the prototype grade crossing
system as directed by FRA rules & regulations.  Some of the results of those rules are:  1. Train enters into the
Approach
Detection Block and stops before the Island Detection Block, grade crossing control will de-activate in 2 1/2 minutes.  2.
Train enters into the
Approach Detection Block, Stops, then backs out of the Approach Block the grade crossing will
de-activate in 5 seconds.  3.  Train is already stopped in the
Approach Block and crossing control has timed out - train then
starts moving to the island block and trips grade crossing control -
Island Block will lock-out the opposing Approach Block
and once the train has cleared the
Island Block the crossing control will de-activate within five seconds - when train clears
the opposing
Approach Block, then the opposing Approach Block will re-active within five seconds.  4.  Train enters an
Approach Block at or below maximum track speed, the crossing will activate 25 seconds before the train gets to the
crossing, upon passing the crossing, the crossing lights and bell will de-activate within five seconds and the opposing
Approach Block is locked-out, when the train exits the opposing Approach Block it will re-activate within five seconds.

At the grade crossing when a train enters into the Approach Block from either direction, the crossbuck flashing
lights will come on and the bell will start ringing.  If gates are employed, then the gate lights will come on with light on the
end of the arm steady on and the two lights in the middle of the arm alternating flashing, after about 5 seconds the gate
will start lowering to the its horizontal position which will take about 15 seconds and then the bell will turn off.

When the train leaves the Island Block then the crossbuck lights and bell will turn off.  If gates are employed, then
the crossbuck and gate lights will remain on and the bell will start ringing again, the gate will start rising to the vertical
position which will take about 15 seconds. When the gates reach the vertical position all lights and the bell will turn off.
